U.S.S. Batfish Living History Day

The U.S.S. Batfish submarine, on display year-round, will be the site of a living history day with tours of the sub, submarine veterans to speak with and live demonstrations throughout the day. Two tracked vehicles and a special weapons exhibition will be on display as well as the full set-up of a typical World War II military encampment. The Batfish (SS-310) has a distinguished combat record. Responsible for sinking three enemy submarines and eleven other enemy vessels during World War II, the Batfish and her crew were highly decorated with nine Battle Stars, one Navy Cross, four Silver Stars, ten Bronze Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation. While exploring World War II history, visitors can reflect upon the 52 Monument, a series of plaques dedicated to each submarine the United States lost during World War II. The site is a participating Blue Star Museum, which means that active duty/Reserve and National Guard members, plus five family members, free admission. Simply present military identification. Regular hours of the park are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday; 1-6 p.m. Sunday.
