11th Annual Power of the Purse

October 19, 2016
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Over 300 women will enjoy a luncheon while admiring and bidding on purses and accessories donated by gracious donors. The proceeds from the event will benefit United Way’s early literacy initiative. Through a partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, United Way mails more than 2,500 children a quality, age-appropriate book a month from birth to their fifth birthday. It costs United Way $25 a year per child. More than 50% of children entering kindergarten in Fort Smith perform two to three years behind their developmental norm. Families living in poverty have less than 10 children’s books in the home. United Way’s early literacy initiative is working to break the barriers to help children succeed. Hopefully by building the children’s libraries and their vocabularies, we are building kindergarten readiness.

Admission: $40
