Elks Annual Youth Hoop Shot

1:15 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This free-throwing contest is open to children ages 8 through 13. Participants must be 8 to 13 years old as of April 1, 2017. There is no entry fee to participate nor admission charge for spectators. Registration for participation will begin in Kaundart Field House, the Northside High School Gym, at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday January 22, with the Contest Opening beginning promptly at 2 p.m. Pre-registration is not necessary. A parent/guardian MUST be present during registration and the contest. No additional entries will be taken once the Contest has begun. There may be a concession stand available. Each participant will shoot 25 free throws within 2 rounds. Winners are the girl and boy that successfully shoots the most in each of 6 divisions: Boys/Girls ages 8-9; Boys/Girls ages 10-11; Boys/Girls ages 12-13. All six first place winners will advance to Hot Springs on February 6 to represent their school and the Fort Smith area to compete in the District/State Hoop Shoot Contest. A stipend will be awarded by Fort Smith Elks Lodge to help offset expenses. From the District/State Contest, participants have the chance to advance with all expenses paid to represent Arkansas in the Regional Contest in Tennessee and then the National Contest in Chicago, Illinois. Girls, in all age divisions, and the Boy age division 8-9 will use the girl-sized ball. Boy divisions 10/11 and 12/13 will use the regulation-sized ball. Both Boys and Girls in age division 8-9 will shoot from a line 4 feet in front of the regular goal line. All goal heights will be at regulation 10 feet for all divisions. Prizes for the Elks Hoop Shoot include: Certificates for all participants; First through 3rd Placers receive trophies and Certificates; First Placers will also receive a t-shirt to wear at the District/State Level Contest on Feb. 4. Fort Smith Elks Lodge is a fraternal service organization whose mission is focused on youth, veterans, and drug-awareness.
