4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Paris (Arkansas) author Juneus F. Kendall, M.D., will appear at the Fort Smith Public Library to promote and sign copies of his books, including Up on the Ridge (volumes 1 & 2), The Ferryman, Wattsville, and Hawks Nest. Known as "Ted" to his friends, the author grew up in rural West Virginia. Following the Second WW and in the early part of the Korean Conflict, he served in the Army in the ski troops. After the service he received his M.D. Degree from The Medical College of Virginia. He has been a Family Doctor for more than 50 years, retiring from practice in early 2010. As an avid runner Ted has completed over 50 Marathons, 10 Fifty-Milers, and numerous other races. He completed the prestigious Western States 100 mile race in less than 24 hours 3 days before his 56th birthday. He still runs 2 to 4 miles three or four mornings a week. Kendall has completed three novels and a two volume book of short stories: The Ferryman, a novel about freedom whose protagonist is a German Mennonite born in Siberia during the last days of Czar Nicholas II; Wattsville, the story of a family physician in a small coal mining village in West Virginia, and Hawks Nest, a novel about an industrial disaster set in the Great Depression in West Virginia. His short stories recall growing up during the Great Depression and venturing out of a mostly rural setting in West Virginia during the 1940's and 50's. Copies of his books will be available for sale and signing at this open-house style event.
