Eclipse Watch Party

August 21, 2017
12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

On Monday, August 21, 2017, the United States will experience its first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in 99 years. This spectacular event takes place when the moon blocks the sun, turning daylight into twilight and leaving the sun's atmosphere, or corona, visible for a brief moment. The eclipse is predicted to happen in our community between 1:00 – 1:30 pm with almost 90% coverage. The Fort Smith Public Library will be holding Eclipse Watch Parties at all library locations; bring your friends, family, and lawn chair or blanket and join the celebration. A limited number of eclipse glasses will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis; NEVER look directly at the Sun without proper solar filters. This natural event is weather dependent and will be best viewed on a cloudless day; hope for clear skies!
