ArtBuzz » How It’s Made: Matthew RonayJuly 19, 2018
7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Craving the latest in art? Join this program that mixes art, cocktails, and discussion for an evening that will leave you buzzing over the latest exhibition The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art. In this series (July 5, 12, and 19), guests will get a sneak peek at the materials, inspiration, and history of selected artists from the temporary exhibition. Your ticket includes a signature drink, light appetizers, and great conversation each evening! Register for each evening separately. This night features artist Matthew Ronay! Ronay will discuss the surrealist, mythology, and psychedelic inspirations behind the large-scale sculptures. Melding vocabularies of modernist abstraction and ritualistic objects, Ronay’s sculptures and enigmatic installations express the primacy of the handmade object. Suggesting the transcendent qualities of our bodies and the world we inhabit, Ronay’s meticulously crafted works embody modes of visual production that remind us that objects are not merely representations of a material culture of mass production, but rather are sites of projection: acting as locations which embody and reflect our inception and corporeal struggle. Register online or by phone.
Admission: $20; $18 members.
