Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet are the musicians of Trout Fishing in America. The two-man acoustic combo’s website describes them as “an eclectic folk/rock band perhaps best known for family/children’s music. Songs like “My Hair Had a Party Last Night,” “18 Wheels on a Big Rig,” and “When I Was a Dinosaur” have earned them a place in the hearts of kids and parents everywhere. Besides their quirky and memorable children focused performances, Trout has electrified festivals and performing arts centers across North America with their deep catalogue of “adult” songs. Also, on August 4, at 2:30 pm, Mayor Sandy Sanders and the Bicentennial Committee will host a special Time Capsule Burial Ceremony at Pendergraft Park, 200 Garrison Avenue, Fort Smith. Following the Time Capsule burial ceremony, an Ice Cream Social will be hosted at approx. 3:00 pm at the Fort Smith Museum of History, at 320 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith. There is no charge for the ice cream social. Mayor Sandy Sanders says this concert will be highlight of the year-long bicentennial celebration that began December 25, 2017. “This represents the culmination of four years of planning, and there are many, many citizens who have volunteered their time to make this year something very special for our citizens to enjoy and remember. To commemorate our 200 years of history is no small matter and the volunteers wanted to make sure the calendar of events included entertainment that appeals to all generations. Trout Fishing in America was the perfect fit for that and we are happy to have them back in Fort Smith for such a special occasion.” About Fort Smith’s Bicentennial 2018 marks Fort Smith’s Bicentennial and celebrates 200 years of the community’s rich and diverse heritage. Spanning the entire year, the city will celebrate four main themes examining its past, present and future. JANUARY – MAY: ARTS & CULTURE The rich culture of arts and history is a huge influence within the community. During these months, Fort Smith focuses on bringing life to artifacts and exhibits that make up its past, present, and future. The city will also focus on uncovering new artists and talents based in Fort Smith featuring outstanding musical performances as well as art shows and more. JULY – SEPTEMBER: HOMECOMING During these months, Fort Smith will focus on “Homecoming.” The community encourages those who have a rich family heritage in Fort Smith to plan family reunions and get-togethers. Those who were born here, raised here, or currently live elsewhere are encouraged to come back home to appreciate all Fort Smith has to offer. OCTOBER – DECEMBER: FUTURE FORT SMITH As the year comes to an end, Fort Smith will focus on where it’s headed as a city. We will explore what the future holds for you and our great community.
