A Child's Garden in History

May 18, 2019
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

The Friends of the Fort and the Fort Smith Master Gardeners join forces to present a Children's Gardening program May 18, beginning at 10a.m. at the Fort Smith National Historic Site. The program will be held in the historic Civil War garden on the parade ground at the Historic Site. Children will learn the history of gardens at the Army fort, their importance to residents and how children played a role in maintaining the garden. Members of the Fort Smith Master Gardeners will demonstrate the proper way to plant seeds, and children will plant their own pumpkin seeds in small containers they may take home, along with colorful instructions, to grow their own plant. Visitors may expect historical characters to join in the work at the garden, making the event both exciting and educational. The program is offered without charge by the Friends of The Fort and the Fort Smith Master Gardeners. It is best suited for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years of age. Children will be accepted so long as supplies allow.

Admission: Free.
