Days for Music, Theater and Dance for Kids
Whether you march to the beat of your own drum or prefer to play with a band, there are plenty of opportunities to make music. Classes, private lessons and camps are offered for musicians of all ages.

UAFS Academy of the Arts Camps
Academy of the Arts Music Lessons

Who: Musicians 3 years and up
What: Private music lessons available in piano, wind, brass, percussion and string instruments, as well as voice lessons. Five- and 10-week options are available for 30-, 45- or 60-minute weekly lessons. Fees and times vary.
When: Ongoing through Aug. 3 MusikGarten
Who: Children, ages birth to 5
What: The camp will guide children in a variety of child-centered activities, focused on music and movement. Classes include "My Musical World" for birth to age 2; "Cycle of Seasons-Summertime" for ages 3-5; and "All Together Now" for birth to age 4. Cost is $75.
When:
  • Session I: May 28-June 25

Musical Theater Performance Camps
Academy of the Arts Broadway Bootcamp

Who: Students, grades 7-12
What: Intensive week of musical theater featuring students performing their favorite Broadway musicals. A final performance will take place at 6 p.m. on June 26 in Breedlove Auditorium. Cost is $185 and includes a T-shirt.

UAFS Broadway Babies
Who: Students, grades 1-2
What: Broadway Babies is an introductory musical theater camp for young students that explores a number of popular stage tunes. Fee is $175 and includes a T-shirt. The camp will finish with a finale performance at 1 p.m. July 18 at The Blue Lion. 
When: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 13-17
Where: The Blue Lion, 101 North 2nd Street

Broadway Bound
Who: Students, grades 3-9
What: Explore tunes from some of Broadway's most popular shows. Fee is $225 and includes a T-shirt. A finale performance will be 1 p.m. July 25 in Breedlove Auditorium.
When: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 20-24

Band Camps
Wind & Symphonic Instrument Band Camp

Who: Musicians in grades 8-12
What: Dr. Alexandra Zacharella will serve as conductor for musicians of wind and symphonic band instruments. The fee is $190 for commuters and $385 for residents. 479-788-7972

High School Jazz Band Camp
Who: Musicians in grades 9-12. Students in eighth grade permitted with director’s consent.
What: Open to musicians of all instruments, students will spend a week in jazz orchestra rehearsals, playing in jazz improv sessions and taking classes in music theory, listening skills and songwriting. Cost is $190 for commuters and $385 for residents. 479-788-7554

Jazz Rock Orchestra Camp
Who: String instrument musicians, grades 9-12. Students in eighth grade permitted with director’s consent.
What: String instrument musicians will spend a week in jazz orchestra rehearsals, playing in jazz improv sessions and taking classes in music theory, listening skills and songwriting. Small combo rehearsals and jam sessions at public venues also will be held. Tuition is $190 for the week for commuters, which includes camp T-shirt and a daily lunch buffet in The Lion’s Den dining hall. Residential students pay $385. 479-788-7554.

Dancing Days

Western Arkansas Ballet Summer Dance Camps
Who: Dancers ages 4 & up
What: WAB will also hold individual camps throughout June. Each camp will feature ballet or jazz designed for the skill level of the students.  Program will include a dance class and study explorations about music, dance history, nutrition, creative expression, mime, dance vocabulary and dance demonstration. When: Weeklong dance camps begin June 15 and 22. Three-day jazz workshop begins June 22.

Lorraine Cranford Summer Dance Workshop
Who: Dance students and instructors age 11 and older, with a minimum of two year of classical ballet
What: The intensive dance workshop will provide instruction and demonstrations in ballet, modern and jazz technique. An in-studio performance will cap off the week on June 12. Tuition is $475 and includes all classes and a T-shirt. 479-785-0152, waballet.org When: June 7-12
