Fun in the Sun: Swimming Pools and Parks
Spending time in the sun this summer will be easy to do, whether its spent splashing in the pool, riding the train or playing at the park. There is no shortage of low-cost or even free opportunities to enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer this season.

Fort Smith Parks & Recreation

Creekmore Pool
Who: Swimmers of all ages
What: The Creekmore Park Pool is open each year from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Cost to swim is $1 ages 6 and under and $2 for ages 7 and older. Season passes are available. The Splashpad is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and is free. When: May 29-Aug. 7 – 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-6 p.m. Sunday
Aug. 13-Sept. 4 – 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 1-6 p.m. Sunday
Sept. 5 (Labor Day) – 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Martin Luther King Jr. Park Splashpad
Who: Kids of all ages
What: Splashpad/Sprayground is open daily through Labor Day. Admission is free. When: Splashpads are open 9 a.m.-8 p.m.

Tilles & Woodlawn Park Wading Pools
Who: Ages 8 and under
What: Open for those looking to cool down in the hot summer. Admission is free. When: Noon-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday

Creekmore Park Train Rides
Who: All ages
What: The legendary train at Creekmore Park will operate extended hours throughout the warm weather months. Visitors can take a ride around the scenic community park for only 25 cents. The steam engine will run from 1-6 p.m. July 4.
When: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, 1-6 p.m. Sunday through Sept. 3.

Parrot Island Waterpark at Ben Geren Regional Park

Who: All ages
What: Along with miniature golf, go karts, playground equipment, picnic areas and pavilions, Ben Geren is home to Parrot Island Waterpark. Parrot Island offers a wave pool, four water slides, lazy river, activity pool and children’s aquatic play area for water lovers of all ages. Admission is $15 for those over 48 inches, $10 for those under. Children 3 years and under are free. Season passes are available.
When: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily through Aug. 19; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday Aug. 20-Sept. 5.

Tiny Tot Time
Who: Tiny guests 5 and under
What: Tiny Turtle Island is open exclusively for the little ones and parents every Wednesday morning during the season. Admissions is $5 for children 48 inches and under; free for parents.
When: 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesdays

The Park at West End

Who: All ages
What: Known for its Ferris wheel from the 1935 World’s Fair in Chicago, the Park at West End is one of Fort Smith’s most iconic spots. The park offers rides on the Ferris Wheel and its vintage, hand-painted carousel. Guests can also grab a bite to eat from the Nickel & Dime Diner. Park admission is free; rides are $1.
When: 4-9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 4-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday through Aug. 15
