Linda Seubold 1942-2019

Fort Smith, Ark. June 5, 2019– Long-time Fort Smith journalist Linda Seubold, 76, died at a Fort Smith hospital June 5, surrounded by her family. She was the co-founder and editor of Entertainment Fort Smith Magazine and a former award-winning columnist and news reporter for the Southwest Times Record.

She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2012 but survived seven more years, sustained by faith, courage, the love of family and friends and treatment she received at the Myeloma Center of the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute in Little Rock. It was her hope that by participating in numerous research trials, future patients will be able to overcome the disease.

Her unflagging optimism and enthusiasm for this city and region and the merit of its cultural community and its residents led her many loyal readers to think of her as a friend. She made many personal friends through her roles as a reporter, columnist and publisher.

Seubold adopted Fort Smith as her hometown early in life as her father, a Methodist minister, moved their family between church assignments in Arkansas. She was happy when her father was assigned here at a time that allowed her to graduate from Fort Smith High School, where she could be trained under journalism teacher Hazel Presson. She attended Fort Smith Junior College before marrying Frank Seubold. He preceded her in death in 2016 after a 55-year marriage. Together they had five children, 12 grandchildren and a three great-grandchildren.

In her newspaper and magazine columns, Seubold was an upbeat, consistent cheerleader for efforts such as the Riverfront Blues Festival and the U.S. Marshals Museum. She wrote many inches about local musicians. local culture and diverse individuals who contribute to the betterment of Fort Smith. Personally and professionally, Linda had a consistently positive influence on her hometown.

Those who read her columns know that Linda was both “Offbeat” and “Hot Stuff.”
Entertainment Fort Smith Magazine, as Seubold planned for with co-founder and owner Lynn Wasson, will continue publication.
