Summer Sounds Great at UAFS - Band and Music Camps


Who: Music students in grades 7-12
What: The UAFS Department of Music hosts summer music camps that serve a variety of music students in surrounding communities. Master teachers and guest artists help students build their skills in a fun-filled, energetic atmosphere. 


June 8

A Cappella Fest: Directed by Dr. Timothy Workman, this one-day vocal camp has master classes and sectionals, group warm-ups and music that is fun and engaging. Evening concert with special guest performers. 479-788-7543

Cost: $30, includes meals.


June 11-14

Summer Band Camp: Directed by Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, director of  bands at UAFS, and other outstanding UAFS music faculty lead a one-week camp. Students must provide their own instrument, excluding percussion. This affordable band camp will include a Friday night concert and other fun evening activities. Residential and commuter options with meals provided. 
When: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 10; 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 11-14. Register online by June 7.
Cost: Commuter tuition $210; Residential camp $410. Includes T-shirt and lunch. Scholarships of $60 available for All-State Band or Jazz Band members. $30 scholarships for All-Region Band members.


June 24

Jazz Band Camp: Directed by Dr. Matt Leder, guest conductor, with Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, co-director and faculty member. Friday night concert and other fun evening activities, open to all band and jazz band instruments, including brass, woodwinds, piano, guitar, bass and drum set. Students must provide their own instruments, excluding piano and drums.
When: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 24; 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. June 25-28. Register online by June 17.
Cost: Commuter tuition $210; Residential camp $410. Includes T-shirt and lunch. Scholarships are available for ASBOA Junior Region and/or Senior Region Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, All-State Band, All-State Jazz Band, All-State Orchestra, Oklahoma Honor Bands, UAFS faculty and staff family discounts and incoming UAFS freshmen.

What: Camps, lessons and art activities are available for all ages at Community School of the Arts. Musical theater camps, art camps, acting classes, preschool programs and private lessons are offered. New summer programs are being added.

May 3-4
Little Mermaid Jr, presented by CSA
The musical production of The Little Mermaid, JR is presented by students of the Community School for the Arts Children's Theatre Company. It is led by director Shannon Stoddard, with musical direction by Sheila Mann and assistance by Ryan Gonzales.  Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for children 10 and under, and $8 for a group of 10 or more. June 3-7
Teen Musical Theatre Boot Camp
Improve your Musical Theatre technique and gain confidence and a stronger musical theatre skills with this exciting week long camp taught by Shannon Stoddard and Melissa Ree. This camp is open to students in grades 7 - 12, as well as college freshmen. Art in Motion - Visual Arts Camp
From making sculptures that move to creating movement of the body, students will be creating works that show motion. Have a fun week of movement in art. There are two sessions. Grades 1-4, June 10-14; grades 4 -8, June 17-21. Led by Marianne Nicodemus. Intensive dance workshop for ages 11 and older with two or more years of classical ballet training. Instruction in ballet, modern and jazz dance with instructors Jammie Walker and Julie Fiorenza, former members of Jessica Lange Dance, and Francesca Martoccio from Colorado Ballet. 
When: June 2-7

The Nutcracker, ages 4-6. 1:30-3:30 p.m. $75. 
Coppelia, ages 7-9. 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. $85.
