“This partnership gives us an opportunity to share our talents and compassion with these children,” said Shani Patterson of Peachtree Hospice. The best part of being a partner, she said, is “the feeling you get by making a difference in these kids’ lives. It’s very rewarding spending time with them and being able to help out where necessary. The relationship is mutually beneficial; the children have also given back to us. They provided placemats for our annual Christmas party and made snowflakes for us to display in our Hospice Unit at Sparks Hospital.”
Patterson said she had learned how to make friends by lifting a child up to reach the monkey bars. She quickly became the most popular person on the playground.
Volunteers of Peachtree Hospice have donated box tops and pop can tabs for fundraising, mentored students in the classroom and lunchroom and also have donated gift cards given as awards of excellence at quarterly assemblies.
