September Night Court at the Fort Smith National Historic SiteSeptember 14, 2018 - September 15, 2018
The Friends of the Fort will present the September Night Court at the Fort Smith National Historic Site. Local volunteers will recreate the trial of Frank Carver, charged with the murder of Annie Maledon at 7pm on Friday, September 14 and 6pm on Saturday, September 15. Annie Maledon, the daughter of George Maledon who served as hangman for the Federal Court under Judge Isaac C. Parker, lived a troubled life under the watchful eyes of Fort Smith citizens. Eventually, she chose to seek a new future with a young gambler from Muskogee. Frank Carver was a man with big plans but little means who declared an unending devotion to Annie. Their troubled relationship lasted almost four years, and ended when Annie was shot in the back on a dirt road in the Indian Territory. The law called it murder, but Frank insisted it was only a tragic accident. Will a modern jury, selected from the Night Court audience, agree with the original 1895 verdict? Tickets for the September Night Court are $7 each and must be purchased in advance. Please call 479/831-9274, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for tickets or information on the Night Court.
