Akiba: Art & Fashion

December 8, 2018
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Akiba: Art & Fashion is an exhibit by local artist Mireille Gracia Belinga, hosted by Bastion Gallery. Originally from Cameroon, Belinga began as a journalist and weather anchor prior to leaving central Africa when she met her husband, Dr. Belinga of Fort Smith. Early on, her mother taught her the basics of beading and jewelry-making. She returned to that passion after moving to Fort Smith. She wanted to create work that combined traditional African fabric and beads with contemporary style. She also provided herself with a sense of purpose by creating jobs for less-fortunate women artisans in Africa. All her materials are ethnically sourced by those women, who create, by hand, the fabric and beads she uses for the work she creates. The exhibit has an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 8. Gallery hours are every Saturday from noon-midnight. Refreshments provided.

Admission: Free admission.
