May Opening Reception: Glass Works

The Center For Art and Education will feature an exhibition over glass, highlighting artists who specialize in the art form of glassblowing and glass-making. In the Main Gallery, James Hayes creates playful, adventurous and colorful glass works influenced by nature, chance, the fashion world, interior design and his own experiences. Hayes earned his BFA from Hendrix College in 1988, after which he searched for a new medium to express his artistic talent. He discovered glassblowing at the Arkansas Arts Center Museum School. He has studied glassblowing in Murano, Italy; Paris, France; the Glass Furnace in Istanbul; Urban Glass Brooklyn, New York; New Town Plaza in Hong Kong; and the Pilchuck Glass School near Seattle, Wash. He owns the James Hayes Art Glass Company in Pine Bluff, Ark. Arkansas artists Elizabeth James and Eliza Cossey display their work in the Studio Gallery. Cossey is a self-taught artist who has followed her passion from a very young age. She has taken glass lessons all over the U.S. and Canada. James attended LSU where she received her B.A. in Fine Arts and a M.A. in Art History. She is the owner of Elizabeth James Glass. The opening reception 1-4 p.m. Light refreshments including refreshing drinks provided by Belle Point Beverages, Inc.
